Christmas in NYC

December 17th, 2007 by Derek

I went to NY on Saturday to see some of the Christmas stuff. Here are some of the pictures.

From the Botanical Garden in the Bronx:

The one above is Grand Central Station.

If I understood this right, schoolkids donated pennies and they were all collected into this giant display. It was an unbelievable amount of pennies.

  • Ok, a few things:

1.) Did you know that I had plans to be in NYC that day too, but they were cancelled due to a few various reasons. But, it would have been magical to run into on the busy christmas themed streets of Manhattan.

2.) I know exactly what they should do with all those pennies: take them out of circulation! I have been a strong advocate of removing the penny from our tender for a long time. In fact, in the late 90′s I led a locally successfully underground effort & took the matter in my own hands. I, along with the K.E.Y Club held a penny drive… the rest I won’t blog comment about because it was illegal; lets just say a bunch of high school suckers literally threw away some money.
