How did I do it? Well…

It was Monday night, after class. We both got done around 8:00 and headed home. While Joni waited unsuspectingly at home, I set my plan into action. After getting everything set up, I called her and asked her to come over.

I intercepted her before she got to my place, and I told her I had to mail a package. The post office is just a couple buildings down, so we made the walk down there. On our return, we walked through the water park, just by my building. You can see it on the map above – it’s the circle below the stick figures.

As we passed through the park, I reached into my pocket and with my iPhone, signaled the show to start. I pointed at the building across the street, where big strange white boxes were flying across the building. It was mysterious, but clearly patterned. Then it stopped, and in giant letters across the building we saw this:

7 months, 19 days, 9 hours

It was how long we had known each other and how long we had been dating, respectively. As I narrated the display, Joni realized what was going on. Next we saw words that reminded us of places we had been, things we had experienced and other things that we have shared: Munich, 1L year, Punkin Chunkin, etc.

Next, the side of the building turned into a re-enactment of a conversation I had with Chris Landrigan just a couple days before I asked Joni out for the first time. It went something like this:

Chris: yo – so you and joni should go out

me: wait… what?

[...]

me: i definitely don’t want to miss an opportunity here by letting it pass

So with “I LOVE YOU JONI” in giant letters, music playing in the water park, and among the trees, I got down on one knee, presented a ring and asked Joni to marry me. She managed to get the first two letters of YES! out.

We couldn’t be happier. This has been a long time in the making, and I’m so glad to be at this point now. Joni is amazing and I look forward to getting married next year!

Look at that thing! That’s as unidentified as they get.

I didn’t bother reading the article. Maybe later they define “criminals” to be “space aliens.” Or the other way around.

PAW PAW, Mich. — A 21-year-old man was taken on a wild ride Wednesday afternoon when the wheelchair he was in became attached to the grille of a semi-truck and was taken four miles down a highway at about 50 mph.

And he only spilled his soda! I feel cheated by the reporting, however. I think half of what makes it interesting is: how on earth did he get "attached to the grille of a semi-truck"?

The right to bear arms, afforded by the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, was adopted long ago to insure a civil militia’s ability to defend our fine nation in the absence of a well regulated army. Today this ancient right allows students across the nation access to weapons on campus used to bring about the mass destruction of our families, communities, and friends. I cannot find one justification behind the State’s support for this mission of terror. There is no need to “bear arms” on a University campus. An educational institution, whether it be one of higher learning, or remedial education, should promote the safest environment possible. By permitting guns on campus we are inevitably promoting the possibility of horrific school violence. Do you feel safe?

Please show your concern in the wake of this tragedy.

This is from one of the groups on facebook created in response to the VT shootings. My favorite line is the one with the author’s implication that the State supported what Cho did. Does she really think anyone is arguing that he had a constitutional right to do what he did? He was more than just a criminal; he was insane. I don’t think he was concerned with University policy on gun controls.

She obviously hasn’t thought this through. I mean, why just make guns illegal on campus? Let’s ban homicide. Problem solved.

Perhaps it took so long because of the principal’s Catch-22 attitude about Cody’s guilt — she said, ‘Well, why should we believe you? You’re a criminal. Criminals lie all the time.’"

Now there’s some bullet-proof logic. And isn’t this one of the first questions you’d ask: hey, is this clock right? Poor kid.

John Markell, the owner of Roanoke Firearms, said Cho bought a Glock pistol at his shop last month, paying $571.
